Just a year after it acquired webOS,HP is looking to sell Palm's webOSmobile software platform in a deal that could fetch hundreds of millions ofdollars.HP is trying to figure out how to recoup its investment in Palm, viewedby many as an expensive foray into the smartphone market that has not paid off.
There has been talk that technology companies have expressed an interest inbuying the division, which is seen as attractive for its patents.Among thosementioned so far are Amazon.com, Research In Motion, IBM, Oracle and Intelwhich are considered to be among the companies likely to be interested in theHP asset.
There is no doubt that the future of the unitwhich HP acquired when it bought Palm in 2010, was in mess after HP decided tokill its webOS-based TouchPad tablet following poor sales and negative reviews.HPis said to be exploring ways to optimize the webOS software. In October, HPditched a plan to spin off its personal computers unit. The plan would havecost billions of dollars in expenses and lost business although the company hassince rescinded the decision but i wonder what will happen to the best OS ever.
